filmpro conversations is a series of conversations bringing together the disabled arts community and its allies to share their experience and reflect about the state of the art and to question the past, present and future of the sector.
The first conversation happened at Cockpit Studios, Bloomsbury, the 28th February 2023 and included 26 participants and followers from home questioning the panels via filmpro’s social media channels. The participants were artists and practitioners from the digital arts sector, activists and interpreters. The conversation was divided in two sessions:
-Session #1: “Disability film – past, present and future” moderated by Julie MacNamara (playwright, filmmaker, director) with Ted Evans (writer, director) and Ella Glendining (writer, director). The artists shared their work and experience and shared the discussion with the audience about what they mean when they talk about disability filmmaking, their favourite pieces of work and how the industry can me more inclusive, open to new voices and stories and flexible to diverse needs.
When: Tuesday, 28th February 2023
Where: Cockpit Studios, Bloomsbury, Cockpit Yard, Northington St, London WC1N 2NP

Session #2: “The conflict between the accessibility and sustainability” moderated by Tamsin Omond (writer, environmental activist, journalist) with speakers Andria E.M. (activist) and Daze Aghaji (activist). The activists opened a sincere conversation and reflection about the accessibility of activism and the difficulties that a disabled person can face while joining the fighting. The audience and the panellists also discussed the conflict between accessibility and sustainability within the digital arts production and how this must open new debates in the future with the goal of a more accessible industry.
The sessions were followed by a friendly networking session where the panellists meet the audience with the support of the team of BSL and text-to-speech interpreters that supported also the two panels.
The panels were recorded and can be shared upon requests, while the outcomes of the conversations will be used to open further conversations, debates and projects curated by filmpro and its network.
